The Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO) has ordered a protocol on hogs being taken to slaughter houses following the re-emergence of African swine fever cases in Bataan’s five towns.

Dr. Alberto Venturina, provincial veterinarian, has required hog traders to secure ASF test result and veterinary health certificate before taking their pigs to the slaughter house. The new emergence of ASF cases were reported in towns of Orion, Morong, Samal, Hermosa, and Pilar. Venturina said the ASF virus could be transmitted from local backyard farms with native pigs and most likely through swill feeding. Pork is still sold in the local market between P350 and P380 per kilo, while dressed chicken, at P190.

The first upsurge of ASF cases hit the province in January 2020 when almost entire of Bataan just like other provinces in Central and Northern Luzon were affected by the menace.
